A practice like chanting gradually bestows on us the ability to let go of pain in our hearts. | Krishna Das
Kirtan, the practice of call and response chanting, is a staple of the Bhakti yoga tradition. During kirtan, the chanter recites mantras that may include the names of goddesses and gods, tell traditional stories, or offer prayers and blessings, all in the ancient language of Sanskrit.
Kirtan is a joyous form of meditation. Sometimes uplifting and wild, at other times grounding and mellow, each kirtan has its unique medicine. Participants are allowed to express their voice in a non-judgmental, non-performative environment. All are welcome to joyously sing and move their bodies, meditate, or simply receive the power of these potent sounds.
